It is not fitting for the month of Ramadan to be like any other month.

Its charity is not like the charity of other days.

Its standing in prayer is not like any other standing.

Its generosity is unlike generosity in any other season.

Its Qur’an recitation is not like any Qur’an recitation at any other time.

By Allah, by Allah, by Allah. There is no excuse for a soul who reaches Ramadan yet leaves it without forgiveness.

If one does not attain forgiveness through the door of qiyam (night prayer), then let them seek it through the door of charity.

If they cannot, then through the door of reciting Al Qur’an.

If they cannot, then through the door of dhikr, remembering Allah with a sincere heart.

And if even that feels heavy, then let them at the very least guard their tongue and restrain their limbs from anything that would wound the sanctity of this sacred month.

By Allah, by Allah, by Allah. How deprived is the one who squanders it.

By Allah, by Allah, by Allah. How truly ruined is the one who lets it slip away.

For Ramadan is delicate. It is honored. It is beloved to Allah.

That, indeed, truly — is the clearest loss.
